Recently the Labor stalwart was in South Australia and MUA delegates and officials from the local branch were treated to his presence at an election fundraiser at Adelaide’s Crowne Plaza.
Branch Secretary Jamie Newlyn said Hawke, at 83 years old, still had as much enthusiasm and passion as the time he was in office.
"Bob has still got it and had the crowd enthralled,” Newlyn said.
"Bob Hawke tasked those attending the function with the job of talking to undecided voters with the facts and schooled the crowd on why Labor has been better for Australia historically.
Hawke also highlighted the differences between Labor and Liberal including on the economy, education and national security, Newlyn said.
The MUA SA branch was one of the sponsors of the event along with SA Unions, CEPU Plumbing & Electrical division and Griffins Lawyers.
